Finally past the birth weight

Since we left the hospital, we have been concerned about Hailey’s weight loss. At birth, she was 8lbs 15oz. At week 1, 7lbs 13oz, and from week 2, 3, and 4, she weighed in at 8 lbs 1oz. Our pediatrician was concerned, and was considering hospitalization if she didn’t gain weight by today.

She weighed in at 9 lbs today, and 22 inches long, which is a 15 ounce and 1.5 inch gain! We’re really happy that she’s on track now.

Here’s what you’ve all been waiting for, of course: more pictures. :)

Getting measured at 2 weeks – 20.5 inches!

Look how strong I am! *Flex*

IMG_0459

Achoo! Ugh, I hope I don’t have daddy’s allergies.

IMG_0461

Oh, big pouty face. The doctor said I’m too thin. What gives?

IMG_0466

Dr. Michael App – our pediatrician. He gave me a pep talk about gaining weight right after taking this picture.

So tuckered out from the doctor’s visit, sleeping in the car.

Beautiful little hands. I love my hands!

IMG_0487

Trying to burp on daddy’s leg… but I’m hungry!

This hand here looks yummy.

IMG_0489

Mmm, mmm, delicious!

My first visit to a restaurant with my mom, and my grandma (Sypkens)! Aren’t you proud that I didn’t scream?

_MG_9685

My first bath! Ug, what is this stuff! Is this completely necessary, guys?

_MG_9686

Dazed and confused.

_MG_9705

Still dazed, but now I’m all cozy, so I’m getting over it.

_MG_9707

Oh man, so cozy. Eyelids are getting heavy…

IMG_0515

… 5 week appointment, finally I gain enough weight, and what’s my prize? A Hepatitis B shot. Gee, thanks, guys. You’re so thoughtful.

2 Weeks Old!

Wow, can't believe 2 weeks have gone by already. Hailey is doing great; her 1 week appointment showed that she lost quite a bit of weight - she was 8lbs 15oz at birth, and 7lbs 13oz at 1 week. We have a 2 week appointment tomorrow to see how her weight has changed over the last week - hopefully she's gained a bit...She certainly eats enough!

She sleeps pretty well at night, generally "night" starts at 1-3AM, but at that point, she sleeps really well for us.

And of course, pictures...

Lilly seems to think that Hailey's bouncy seat is for her, too. She said it's really comfy, and Hailey wasn't using it at the time, so why not. :)

IMG_0406

Hailey all swaddled up - hands out, as always. She needs to be able to move those hands!

IMG_0410

What a cutie. Those soothie pacifiers make her look like a fish! Haha...

IMG_0419

Hmm, this pose looks familiar, hands by the face, as always. Even in her ultrasounds, the technician always had a hard time getting a good look at her face because her hands were always in the way.  Personality showing through already :)

IMG_0421

Of course, we can't forget about you! Lilly continues to love her little sister. She's always nearby when Hailey is unhappy.

IMG_0423

Lilly trying to give kisses! She would be up sleeping on top of Hailey if we let her.

IMG_0434_editted

Hailey was upset that I wouldn't break her off a piece of my kit kat bar. She knows what she wants. Unfortunately for her, daddy has food allergies and she'll have to wait a little while longer to get some of those yummy treats.

Sooo sleepy... :)

Home from the hospital…

We came home from the hospital on Sunday, and both Julie and Hailey are doing great.

Lilly loves her new sister. She loves to give her kisses, and tries to cheer her up with her toys when she’s sad.

Hailey is here!

Hailey was born by C-Section at 11:02AM this morning. She is 8 lbs, 15 ounces.

Mom and baby are both doing well. Mom is recovering from a pretty rough C-section, and is in a lot of pain, but she is recovering.

Edit: here's a picture!

Also, here's a video of her, when she was less than an hour old. Link to youtube

Update...

18 hours in... We're at 6 or 7cm, 90%, and -2 station. Pretty soon they're going to make the call on whether or not to do a C-section, they think she might just be too big.

(-2 station is up a little high still, she's supposed to be down farther by now.)

Epidural in...

Julie just got the epidural, and she has relief finally. They're going to check her soon to see how far she's dilated. More to come soon...

Waiting Game...

We're on Pitocin, waiting for labor to progress. Contractions right now are hardly noticeable, so we're just waiting, for now.

Water broke...

Julie's water broke! We're now in the hospital, waiting for labor to progress. Hailey is on her way!

Baby Update...

It's been a while since we've updated the blog... We are nearing the end of the countdown to Hailey's birth! On Thursday, October 22nd, we had our 6th ultrasound to measure growth, and Hailey's weight was estimated at around 9 lbs.

On Friday, we had an appointment with our Doctor, who came up with a plan that we're happy with: if Hailey doesn't come out on her own before her due date (Thursday, Oct. 29th), she will plan to induce labor on the begining of the following week (the week of Monday, Nov. 2nd). So, we have a final countdown of about 10 days.

We're very excited, and you can expect to see some more posts in the following weeks!

Another Dr. appointment, and another quilt!

We had another appointment today...we're going to have one every two weeks until we get closer to the due date. We're measuring a little bit ahead of schedule - depending on what happens on our appointment in two weeks, we may have another ultrasound to measure growth. Can't say I'm complaining, better safe than sorry! Plus, it's always fun and reassuring to see Hailey again. She's probably just over 3 lbs. now, and in the next few weeks she will bypass Lilly, our Yorkie, in weight (Lilly weigh just under 4 lbs.).

Hailey is lucky enough to have two grandmothers who quilt, so she has another fantastic quilt, made by Julie's mom, Linda Pendock.
