Ultrasound Pictures

Here are some pictures from ultrasound #3:

In this one you can see both of her feet... on the left side, you can see all 10 toes.

I think this one is showing the face, camera angle is from the top of the head. Right side is the face, left side is the back of the head / brain.

Kinda hard to picture this one, but it's a profile view - nose & mouth are on the right side.

Same as above, another profile view.

Another profile view, I think this one has her hand in front of her mouth. Very cute.

Third Ultrasound

This is the first post of our new blog!

We had our third ultrasound on Tuesday, and found out that our unborn baby (Hailey) has an echogenic intracardiac focus, which is basically a bright spot in her heart on the ultrasound... Wikipedia describes it pretty much like the doctor did: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Echogenic_intracardiac_focus

It has no inherant physiological problems, but it is a marker for down syndrome. The doctor had a chart describing the statistics of down syndrome: A 26 year old mother statistically has 1/990 chance to have a baby with down syndrome; with the echogenic intracardiac focus, it's 1/550. Not too terribly likely, but still something to think about...

The other notable result of the ultrasound was that the doctor couldn't get a good view of a very small part in the center of the heart. They explained that it could be due to ultrasound noise, because the sound waves could be lost in that area, and they would have a better chance to get a good look at it after she grew a little bit more. There is a possibility that there is a hole there, but they said they are 90% sure it's fine, they just want to be 100% sure, so they recommended the additional ultrasound. We have another one scheduled in about a month.
